SPEAK OUT! Program

Updated: Jun 4

The SPEAK OUT!® program is a speech and voice therapy program specifically developed for Parkinson’s disease and associated conditions by the Parkinson’s Voice Project (See here: https://parkinsonvoiceproject.org/program/).

The SPEAK OUT!® program, developed by the Parkinson Voice Project, is an evidence-based speech therapy program specifically designed for individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) who experience speech and voice changes as a result of Parkinson's disease.

It aims to improve vocal loudness, clarity, and overall communication through the use of "intentional speech." Swallowing function can also be positively impacted.

Learning to project your voice

The SPEAK OUT!® program focuses on speaking with intent along with the projecting your voice. It aims to improve speech clarity and volume, preserving the speech and communication of people with Parkinson’s.

You work together with your speech pathologist completing speech, voice and cognitive exercises. The program also helps to preserve or improve swallowing function.

The SPEAK OUT! program typically involves 12 one-to-one speech therapy sessions with a trained Speech Pathologist across four weeks. Sessions can be delivered face-to-face or via Telehealth (online).

Following completion of the individualised SPEAK OUT! program, clients will join a SPEAK OUT! maintenance group with the aim of maintaining improvements achieved during the individual program. The maintenance group is available to people with Parkinson’s disease or associated conditions who have completed the individual SPEAK OUT! program. Ongoing home practice is also recommended.

The SPEAK OUT! program is available for clients under all funding streams including NDIS, STRC, Aged Care Packages and privately.
